Upcoming OHP Changes: What You Need to Know

Understanding upcoming changes and how to prepare for your coverage.

Let's talk about what's changing

Changes to health coverage can bring up questions and uncertainty. We're sharing this information to help you understand upcoming Oregon Health Plan (OHP) changes, learn who may be affected, and know where to look for support.

What's changing in 2027?

Beginning in 2027, new work or qualifying activity requirements are expected to apply to some OHP members. Some people may also need to renew their coverage more frequently, with renewals changing to every six months for some members, while others continue with annual renewals.

There are still some uncertainties around how and when these changes will take effect. Oregon has joined other states in challenging parts of the federal Medicaid requirements, and state leaders have also asked for more time to prepare for implementation. While these efforts could affect the timeline, a delay has not been confirmed. The current set date for these changes is January 1st 2027.

!!! Important to know

Keeping your address and contact information current with OHP helps ensure you receive important notices about your coverage, renewal deadlines, and upcoming changes. If you've moved recently, or aren't sure whether your information is accurate, take a moment to check and update it.

If these changes apply to you, you should receive information at your next renewal. Notices are currently sent out to individuals. Watch for notices from OHP, through the OneOregon app or in the mail, and follow the instructions provided.

Who may be affected?

These changes may apply to adults who meet all the following criteria:

- Are between 19 and 64 years old

- Are not pregnant

- Do not have Medicare

- Do not receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Who may be exempted?

- Are under the age of 19 years old

- Are over the age of 65 years old

- Are an OHP member with Medicare or qualify for OHP based on disability, pregnancy, or certain other factors.

How can you meet the requirements?

Qualifying activities may include:

- Work or earnings: Meet the applicable monthly work or earnings requirement.

- Education: Attend school at least part-time, if it qualifies under the applicable rules.

- SNAP or TANF: If you are receiving these benefits, you automatically qualify for the required hours.

- Other qualifying activities: Complete at least 80 hours per month of qualifying work, volunteering, training, or school activities, as applicable.

How will this impact your sessions with us?

These new changes do not mean that you will lose your mental health benefits. It only changes how frequently you have to renew your OHP benefits. You can continue your sessions with your clinician as usual.
