Karis Rook, QMHP

They/Them | Qualified Mental Health Professional

I am a non-binary art kid from Milwaukie who is more of a muppet than a person. I enjoy reading, learning, gardening/homesteading, and making weird art. Before becoming an art therapist, I was a teacher and sign language interpreter.

I am a qualified mental health professional, soon to have ATR-P and professional counselor associate.

How I Got Here

Life is funny. I had a lot of unhelpful/harmful experiences with the mental health industrial complex and knew therapy could be different and better for me and my community.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy is holistic and grounded in liberatory theory and practice. I bring in influence from somatic, occupational, and play therapies and learning; still a teacher at heart I believe that educating ourselves and each other is the foundation of the revolution. Our sessions might not look or feel like therapy you're used to, and that's by design.

A hobby I can talk about for hours…

Anything artmaking or craft! I love finding ways to express myself creatively. (And yes, there’s a reason I separate artmaking from crafting—ask me about it!)
